Day 9, 27/07/08: Tien Shan

Up at 7:00am to devour a lovely hot muesli breakfast with peaches & fried bread; probably the first morning I haven't woken up with a headache - sure it's because I'm now 100% comfortable with the nature of the task I'm just about to embark on. Can't wait, really ready for this & whatever it throws up.

After breakfast we sorted out the necessary gear we would be taking for tomorrow's camp 1 drop; basically 2 x 3man tents, 2 stoves, pot sets & loads of food including a large proportion of the 320 chocolate bars. We also had to take our basic daily kit which consisted of:

  • Down jacket
  • Extra hat
  • Spare gloves
  • Spare glasses/goggles
  • Head torch
  • Personal 1st aid kit

Today had been pretty cloudy with some snow showers, so I helped a compadre make anti-balling plates for her crampons using...yep you've guessed it...duck-tape! Bets are now being taken in our 'Toilet Jenga!' Basically since the glacier has started to melt the pinnacles that the toilet's balancing on are getting weaker & weaker, whilst the poo tower below is getting taller & taller; scary sh*t...quite literally...the question is who's going be in the tarp booth when it collapses?!
