Day 8, 11/11/07: - Patagonia Northern Icecap
10:00am start this morning, Ian commented on how loud the snoring was last night; you really don't have to tell us! Had a big river crossing today which involved us each scouting up/down the valley to find a suitable crossing spot. Eventually when we had found one we all viewed it & then returned to pick-up our backpacks, Ariel once again was miles behind, Nic fell over coming across the rocks (with the grace of a new-born giraffe!).
The crossing involved, once again changing into our fleece booties, water was pretty cold but the weather was great for a bit of a dip. Fairly hard going getting down the valley, this was followed by a fairly good uphill section. Jaya, Ian & I came straight up over a steep ledge which involved Ian dragging me up by my pack; the others' took a slightly different route.
We named this camp spot 'shelf camp'; it was a beautiful spot looking out over Lake Legones.
Evans & Jaya went to fill the drom bags back at the river we'd crossed earlier in the day. Ariel once again offered limited help in pitching the tent, but she did however make a beautiful hanging area on the bush outside for all her laundry - Linda Barker eat your heart out!
