Day 36, 08/12/07 - Patagonia Northern Icecap
Nic & Dale resumed the leadership today and we were all up & out early; before schedule actually! The pace was again good this morning and we were on target for our beach pick-up. Ben told us the delightful fisherman's story and again it went on, and on and on - OMG!
Got the boat down the Solei valley and whilst on the beach we were overlooked by a white horse high on the hill. The boat took an eternity to start up & when it did it kept breaking down; eventually we were on our way. Ian & Evans sat in the cock (front, shows how much I know about boats), while Nic & I gobbled up Dales Gorp, mmmm a walnut, ooo skinny almond!
Once the boat docked it seemed surreal to be met by Yos & Graham; ah people we actually knew....people! We were treated by Graham to 'ice cream' or more specifically a rum raisin cornetto, seemed totally surreal having not long stepped off the ice cap. Yos drove us to a hostel 15 minutes from the foot of the Explorades Glacier; lovely place with a cute little puppy. Leftover food rations were sorted & the majority of our technical gear was sent back with Graham & Yos.
The House was designed & built by a German couple, lovely place; slippers were put on our feet, warm food in our bellies (though not enough...Beef & boiled potatoes) and we had gorgeous beds to sleep in. Our room had an ensuite with hot shower but most of us turned down the opportunity, we'd come this far, it'd feel like cheating if we didn't see it through; plus the scent of ammonia isn't that bad!
