Day 29, 01/12/07 - Patagonia Northern Icecap

Nic at the helm today, 2:15am weather check - it's a no go; weather still horrific. She didn't sleep well last night & I awoke to her and Ian discussing their worries about the North to South route.

Everyone was back in our tent today and it was kind of accepted that the North to South route was now a no-go; attentions were instead focused on an East to West crossing. After having the lads in our tent yesterday, I had awoken in the night to find myself being strangulated by a Dale hair, similar to a tentacle only far more robust! It seemed it wasn't only me that had noticed the presence of such hairs and today was borne the term 'Dale Hair!'

Further lessons today involved 'leave no trace' principles (very funny as it appeared Nic & I were already experts in this field!), Heuristics & a puppet show. During the day we had to regularly get out of the tent and dig it out; at one point Nic was digging out & whacked Ian on the head with the shovel. As night fell this progressed and it wasn't long before we were on an hourly rotation; this continued throughout the entire night! Ben had to come into our tent to repair a tear, meanwhile Ian had been outside for nearly 2hrs. When he came back in he was freezing, Nic was cooking so I began to rub Ian's legs in order to try and keep him warm - poor lil' lamb.
