Day 11, 30/07/09: Mongolia - Altai Mountains
Beautiful blue sky day today & the mountains were looking absolutely incredible as we packed up our camp. The locals broke-up the Gers; which amazingly only took about one and a half hours to dissemble. Camels were loaded and everyone was set to begin the trek back down to the Tavan Bogd NP roadhead.
As we headed out it felt a little sad to leave such a beautiful, unspoilt mountain backdrop in our wake; the scenery as we trekked lower went from glacier & snow peaks to Scottish mountains, then to something similar to the English Lake District. As we sat on a hillside eating lunch i was amused to hear Ian singing to himself, a rendition of Grease's 'Beauty School Drop-out!'
We re-pitched our tents at the Ger camp which was really, really dusty, with the swirling winds the inside of the tents got filthy just opening the door to get in & out. I'm also delighted to report that i managed my 1st poo in a week; extremely rewarding even if it was the size of a malteeser!
