  • About:Bali has a long tradition of Bali Usada, also known as Balinese traditional healing. The Balinese live equally in two worlds: the seen or conscious world called sekala, and the unseen or psychic world, called niskala. In traditional Balinese healing, both of these elements need to be addressed in order to truly heal.

  • What to expect:The experience will be very public. The healer may make magic, create fire, use mudras, draw patterns on your body & spit wads of chewed herbs on your skin.

Day 9, 04/05/12: Rediscovering Spirit - Bali

Our place of ceremony this morning was the point where two rivers converge forming a natural T-junction. Here we were asked to set in place our intention; to let go of all that no longer serves us and send it into the offering which was held above our heads.

One by one we were sat in the water. Yoda recited a mantra and blessing, he then held my shoulders, pushing me backwards into the water. As I went back and under, the offering was cast behind me; at this point the group splashed, and pushed it down the river. It felt strange, not necessarily being pushed under the water but Yoda holding me in such a caring and delicate way. With the lightest of touches he allowed my body to float horizontally, gently supporting me whilst stroking my head/hair with cupped handfuls of water.

Individually we were then asked to cleanse under a series of springs. Here the emotions started to unblock. The thumping; the slapping force of the cold water had freed up space within for the stagnation to move.

We left the springs and headed to the ashram of the young Oracle Priestess. We arrived just as she was finishing up her daily mudras/mantras. She then performed a Melukat ceremony on each of us. I accompanied Paula; we both fell backwards.

For me it felt wonderful to release some noise and release what had been loosened at the springs earlier this morning. Watching the girls was at times challenging. I felt their emotion as raw as if it were mine own. The sobs, the trembling; it was as if I could feel them in my own body.

What I'm starting to realise is that all these processes are unique to the individual; they form part of a solitary transit yet at the same time they can absolutely be shared and experienced by the collective. The space calls out to be held and the energy is there as a teaching to be felt and experienced by the collective consciousness.

The Oracle then called us to be seated in front of her. She sung releasing the most ethereal of calls. The heavens danced. I again fell backwards. In the language of Astral, she spoke of the greater cosmos, she spoke of the whole and of the part we play in the matrix of all that is. She spoke of a yoga that is being channelled through her from the greater cosmos. Briefly she explained part of its philosophy; Karen was enamoured by her words, her enthusiasm stirred. "This is why I'm here; I'm here to meet her".

Arriving back at the hotel Karen began to purge, it had been an intense day.
